Humans are naturally drawn to blue sky light

In our eyes, there are receptors (the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cell) that detect blue light and sends signals directly to the alertness, mood and learning centers of our brain. This blue sky light exposure keeps us alert, focused, and in a good mood during the day.

This newly discovered receptor is non-visual, and thus requires a new metric to measure how light affects our health, allowing us to quantify the wellness effects of light. This new metric is called the melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance (melanopic EDI).

How Much Do We Need?

The world’s leading scientists and experts on light and health reached a consensus in 2022 that lighting for wellness needs to obtain a melanopic EDI of 250 lux. This consensus criteria has now been adopted by the majority of all lighting, (IES and CIE) wellness (IWBI) and building authorities (GSA P100) in the world.

Modern Lighting Practices
Fall Way Short of the Wellness Mark

When we look at modern illumination practices through the lens of the wellness criteria, we find standard lighting astonishingly deficient. Field measures show that a standard office building typically provides you with one third of the wellness lighting needed to meet these new minimum criteria. In fact, Michael Rosbash, a circadian rhythm Nobel laureate, stated that lack of light during the day is even worse than issues of light at night.

Modern problems,

Require modern solutions.

Peter Drucker famously said that you can't improve what you don't measure.

Existing lighting has been optimized for the old lighting criterion.

With a new metric and a new criterion comes a new solution. Luckily, the team at SkyView™ has been working on this solution for the past 15 years.

SkyView™ Tile is
the Next Generation
in Circadian Lighting

The first building-integrated lighting solution specifically designed to harness the healthy blue light signal that humans naturally crave.

Blue sky is the secret to better days

SkyView™’s patented Gradient Circadian Optimization™ (GCO) technology is born from the need for a solution that is good for the people and good for the planet. This GCO technology fuses blue skies with warm sun to bring an experience that can only be matched outdoors.

The wonderful feelings you get on a blue sky day are driven by your sky-blue light sensitive circadian system that affects mood, focus, alertness, and overall well-being. Our bodies crave that sky-blue light during the day even in doors where standard lighting does not provide it. Fortunately, BIOS SkyBlue™ and new advanced SkyView™ circadian lighting provide the most effective daytime circadian signal on the market.

SkyView™ technology spatially recreates warm sun and cool sky CCTs to create that blue-sky feeling inside with the industry’s highest melanopic ratio while maintaining standard comfortable spectral conditions, task plane illumination, and compliant energy usage.

To integrate high melanopic light into your specific luminaire, consider the flexibility of industry gold standard SkyBlue™ circadian lighting components.
